What is the hardcore scene like in Belgium? In Belgium hardcore is the little brother of hardcore in The Netherlands. It’s not so big and famous but it’s still just as good! The organizers also do their best to give equally big parties. The Netherlands is still the boss of the scene and nobody can top that. However, that doesn’t mean that hardcore in Belgium isn’t big, because we have parties like Masters of Hardcore, The Qontinent, and Pussy Lounge.
What is your first memory of hardcore? My first encounter with hardcore was when I was eight years old when Thunderdome came to Belgium for the first time. Out of curiosity I bought my first Thunderdome CD and I was immediately sold on the kicks, drums, and bass!
Why did you choose to have a show on Gabber.FM? I used to be resident DJ at Fear.FM, but they stopped broadcasting after just to great years. At that moment I was looking for somewhere I could work on my playing skills. One day I heard a live set from an artist on Gabber.FM and his skills were way better than mine! I saw this as a challenge to practice my spinning in the hopes that I would be good enough to score a resident spot on Gabber.FM. Thanks to this residency I’ve reached a much higher level and I played at locations I once could only dream of.
Which artist would you like to perform with at a party? Why? Secretly I’ve always dreamed of playing together with Vince or Bass-D. I’ve grown up listening to early hardcore. To this day I still get goose bumps when I hear how much love and passion they put into their style of playing.
What is the future of hardcore? I’ve seen hardcore evolve. I’ve seen the ups and downs. The music from 2000 onwards is totally different from the music in the 1990s – harder, faster, stronger. It’s like they say – love it or leave it. Hardcore used to be only in The Netherlands but it also caught on in Belgium. Even today you have hardcore from all corners of the world like Hardcore Italia, frenchcore, and UK hardcore. If hardcore keeps developing in a positive way, it will never die!
